eastdorm.com

Okay! I'm now taking over as administrator of eastdorm.com. The credit card has been changed from vrable's to mine, which I'm sure he will be delighted to hear.

In the poll that I took at the end of last year, it was apparent that the thing people wanted most was more pictures. It seems like the easiest way to do this would be to let dorm people upload pictures. To that end, I'm taking suggestions as to free "photo album" type packages. We have php and it looks like we can get mySQL.

I'm going to recommend sticking with professional hosting in order to ensure site availability during the off-season (summers, winter break, etc.) and exam time.

Things I know about that need to be done:

- Get up the "people" list for the class of 2008 (http://www.eastdorm.com/people.html)
- Get a photo from the class of 2007 (same page)
- Update the dorm ossifers information (Does someone have these? The ones Lori didn't list below.)

I'd like to deal with the 2003-2004 photos section using whatever new photo album ends up being used. I'll also base logins to a "members only" section of the site off logins to the photo album, but I'm putting that section as lower priority (which means it will get done after the photo album, the updates to the "people" page, and the other 3 sites I need to finish developing).

If you're aware of anything else that needs to be done, let me know.

Okay...

Actually this is because I am DUMB. I *did* have "use community pic" on. I just didn't notice.

So "this community will always use the picture" is a feature LJ doesn't have.

Dumb steph.

East Dorm craft table is ON

Just recieved a very nice email from Ruth saying she'd love to have us back, so east dorm craft table is on. If you have anything you'd like us to pimp^H^H^H^Htry to sell for you, even if it's just one or two things, you're welcome to do so. If you sold stuff last year, I'm assuming you are doing so again this year unless you tell me otherwise. Chainmaille, this means you.

I'll be selling glass jewelry and possibly some beaded pieces.

I also need people to man the booth. It is a Friday. I can take from 12:15 to 12:45, but no other time. You do not have to sign up now; I will post again nearer the faire time; but me knowing you are interested would be good.

The good news is that it looks like the Faire will move to Seal Court at
Scripps, so we will have shade etc. The date will be 12/5, table setup
at 9, sales from 10-2ish.

AC printers

Cujo is working again. Lasercare came in yesterday and fixed it. So y'all can use it again. (I know I told a bunch of you, back when, that it'd be easiest to just use Lassie)

if there are any more problems with it, let CIS know, and we will cry about it and shake our fists at LaserCare.

I still don't know what's up with Odin - apparently Chris is in San Diego this week so it's the student sysadmins trying to fix it! If I could remember who they were, I could give you their names and then you could go lynch them. But that'd be mean, so I can't remember who they were.

Apparently, the only way to guarantee getting logged in to lab systems within 10 minutes is to start logging in to one, then log into another. I don't get it.

Geomac today

Since the geomac site's been a little overloaded lately I thought I'd post something about the grand prix fire. I got a small-scale map from geomac, showing that the fire has moved a couple miles out of claremont, but wind is now to the southwest, so...

I also checked the wind direction by which way the smoke is blowing based on the satellite map (already posted to eastdorm). HOWEVER note that weather.com says wind is coming from the NORTHWEST, so the wind arrow MAY BE INCORRECT. I expect the discrepancy is due to differences between winds at cloud level (or smoke level as the case may be) and ground level, or to time differences.
